Aaron Saunders, CEO

Aaron Saunders is Drumfire Public Affairs’ founder and CEO. Saunders spent seven years working for two United States senators before beginning his career in the private sector. He has the rare distinction of serving as senior staff for both a Republican and Democrat.

During his five years with Senator Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), Saunders was the national on-the-record spokesperson, including during Senator Stevens’ indictment, federal trial, and ultimate vindication. Saunders served as Stevens’ communications director in a variety of functions: the Senator’s 2008 Senate campaign, as well as his chairmanship of the Senate Commerce Committee and Defense Appropriations Subcommittee. During his time with Senator Mary Landrieu (D-Louisiana), Saunders managed all press and communications responsibilities during the Affordable Care Act debate and the BP oil spill, including positioning the Senator as the media’s go-to source for information about the federal government’s response to the disaster.

Saunders joined Dezenhall Resources, a crisis communication firm, in 2010. Over his five years there, he rose to Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer where he managed the firm’s day-to-day operations. Saunders led accounts for Fortune 500 companies and trade associations in the defense, chemical, education, transportation, energy, food/beverage, and health care sectors. His work included running sprint and long-term campaigns – nationally and internationally – designed to achieve positive regulatory and legislative outcomes for clients.
